The Diary of Audrey Malone Frayer
A group of friends find themselves communicating with the spirit of a young girl, who died in 1977, after using a Ouija board. The spirit, whose name is Audrey, lures them into searching for her hidden diary. Once found, they begin reading what quickly becomes the craziest experience they will ever share. Audrey's diary entries tell of unsolved murders, a serial killer who murders prostitutes, immoral acts of incest, torturous beatings, and ghostly hauntings.
Somehow the events in this diary from the past become tied to the present when one of the readers finds himself in a dangerous situation that could mean the difference between life and death, as he tries to save someone he cares about.
I actually wrote this story when I was about 20 years old long before I ever had any aspirations of becoming a novelist. I started it on September 20, 1990 and finished it on January 12, 1991. Believe it or not, it was inspired by a game I played with my nephew, Chris Gonzalez, using action figures. Yes, a figure game. During the game a similar tale to Audrey's was being told in a found diary at a haunted house. The diary entries were being made up by me on the spot, as we played. I later felt the need to document the events in the diary because I thought it would make a decent story.
Many years later on April of 2003 I transcribed what I wrote onto 51 pages of loose leaf paper into my computer. When it only added up to 29 pages on my computer I knew someday I would have to get back to this story and enhance it. I put the idea aside and did not get back to it until August of 2008.
I began adding new material to the story, which made it much longer and much more interesting. I kept on making changes on and off until October 2009. It was during this time period that I added the whole bit about the group of friends, the Ouija board, and the haunting. The additions were inspired by my own experiences doing paranormal investigations. The friends, who actually read the diary, are based on myself and my three cousins (Jonathan Morales, Natasha Brockington, and Olivia Brockington), during a time when we used to utilize my Ouija board.
I later added three more chapters between December 5th and December 12th of 2010 that I thought needed to be included to tie up some loose ends in the story. On September 2, 2011 I did a few more finishing touches making this by far the longest time I ever took to write a story. Finally, in 2013 I took it to the next level and extended it big time to create the finished product that would go before a publisher. The book was finally completed in January of 2014, after much editing.
I believe this story was worth every ounce of effort I put into it because this is one of my favorite stories that I've ever done. Despite its sick and demented content, such as incest, rape, torture, murder, and suicide, it really does take you back to the 1970's when you read Audrey's diary. The accuracy cannot be questioned either. I did so much research to make certain that every detail was on point. I researched the music of that time, the movies, the television shows, locations, slang terminology, special events of that time, the weather, and even when there was a full moon. A lot of time and work went into creating this "masterpiece" of literature (well, in my mind, at least!).
On a serious note, I want to apologize to all of you morally religious people because you will hate and criticize the hell out of this story. Actually, on second thought... screw you guys. Do yourself a favor and don't even read it. I am sure those of you, who do enjoy a good story, will like it. The incidents that take place in the story will be very dark and quite disturbing, but remember, it's only a story. I make NO apologies for my creativity. You can quote me on that.
Below are photos of Audrey, as portrayed by my cousin, Tiffany Martinez. I used my cousin as the model for Audrey because I wanted to be able to describe her in perfect detail, while allowing the reader to imagine her as I see her. These are some of the photos Audrey has in her photo album, which include her trip to New York during the 4th of July in 1976. There are also photos of the lake at Garret Mountain Park and the Hackensack River in New Jersey.
